None of this repeats itself. Two weeks later, the swelling has gone down, the hospital room is gone, and that particular version of “brand new” has already passed.

Who a Fresh 48 Session Is For

Families who want the full arc of the story, not just the polished chapter, tend to love Fresh 48 sessions the most. If having photos of the actual hospital stay, older siblings’ first reaction, or the exact hour your baby was born matters to you, a Fresh 48 session is very much worth it. Families who are more private about the hospital experience, or who simply prefer to wait until everyone is home and settled, are just as well served skipping it and going straight to an in-home newborn session. Fresh 48 vs Newborn Session: What Is the Difference

A Fresh 48 session is documentary and fast moving, 30 to 60 minutes, shot in whatever room or space is available at the hospital or your home in those first two days. A newborn session is a relaxed two hour visit at your home, typically in the five to fourteen day window, with soft, curled up posed portraits, no props, no rigid styling. They are not competing products. Most families who book both treat Fresh 48 as the raw, real first chapter and the newborn session as the quieter, more composed second chapter of the same story.

Fresh 48 Is Not Birth Photography

It is worth being clear about one distinction: a Fresh 48 session happens after your baby is born, not during labor and delivery itself. Birth photography, where a photographer is present for the delivery, is a different service with its own logistics around hospital access and insurance, and it is not something we offer at this time. A Fresh 48 session picks up right after, in those first hours and days, which is where nearly all of the documentary detail people picture when they imagine “birth photos” actually lives anyway: the first outfit, the first visitors, the exhausted joy on a new parent’s face.

Scheduling It Around the Hospital

Most hospitals are used to families bringing in a photographer for a short session and do not require special permission for a quiet, respectful visit to a private room. If you are discharged earlier than expected, or prefer not to have a photographer in the hospital at all, the same session works just as well in your living room during those first two days at home.
